Writing a post, an ad or a school essay with a word limit? Paste your Arabic text to count its words, characters, sentences and paragraphs, and to see about how long it takes to read.

Diacritics and tatweel are not counted as characters, so a word counts the same with or without tashkeel. It works for English and mixed text too. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type your text.
  2. Read the counts; they change as you type.
  3. Shorten or lengthen the text to fit your limit.

Questions

How are words counted?

A word is any group of letters or numbers between spaces or line breaks. Punctuation on its own is not a word. Words joined with و, such as والكتاب, count as one word, as in most word counters.

Are diacritics counted as characters?

No. Fatha, damma, kasra, shadda, tanween and tatweel are left out, so كَتَبَ and كتب both have 3 characters.

How is the reading time worked out?

At about 200 words a minute, an average silent reading speed. Reading aloud is slower.

What counts as a sentence and a paragraph?

A sentence ends with . ! ? ؟ or …; a paragraph is a block of text on its own line.

Is my text saved?

No. Everything happens in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
