Questions

What is the nisab?

The least wealth on which zakat is due: the value of 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. Many scholars advise the silver nisab for cash because it is lower and helps more people in need; others use gold. Pick the one your scholar follows.

How much zakat do I pay?

2.5% (one fortieth) of your zakatable wealth, once it is above the nisab and you have held it for one lunar (Hijri) year, called the hawl.

Is zakat due on gold jewellery I wear?

Scholars differ. Some say zakat is due on all gold, others not on jewellery worn in normal amounts. If you follow the second view, enter only the gold you keep as savings.

Which debts can I take away?

Debts you must pay now, such as a bill or an instalment that is due. Long-term loans are usually counted only for the part due now. Ask a scholar for your case.

Where do the gold and silver prices come from?

They are set by hand on the date shown, so they may be out of date. Type today’s price per gram from your gold shop for an exact figure; it stays only on your device.
