Questions
What are the VAT rates in the GCC?
Saudi Arabia 15%, Bahrain 10%, the United Arab Emirates 5% and Oman 5%. Qatar and Kuwait have not started VAT yet, so the calculator uses 0% for them. If a rate changes, type the new one in the rate box.
How do I take VAT out of a price?
Divide the price with VAT by 1 plus the rate. With 15% VAT, SAR 115 ÷ 1.15 = SAR 100 before VAT, so the VAT is SAR 15. Choose “Includes VAT” and the calculator does this for you.
How do I add VAT to a price?
Multiply the price by the rate and add it. With 5% VAT, OMR 200 × 5% = OMR 10 VAT, so the total is OMR 210.
Are all goods and services charged VAT?
No. Some items are zero-rated or exempt, such as some basic food, health care, education or exports, and the list is different in each country. Check with your country’s tax authority for your items.
Is the result rounded?
Yes, to the currency’s usual decimals: 3 for the Omani Rial, Bahraini Dinar and Kuwaiti Dinar, and 2 for the Riyal and Dirham. Your invoice software may round each line, so a total can differ by a fils or a halala.
Selling online in the Gulf?
Online shops with prices in local currency, VAT on the invoice and local card payments.
