Questions
Is this the amount I will get?
It is an estimate from the labour law. Your contract can give more than the law, some amounts can be deducted, and the final amount is decided by your contract and the Ministry of Labour. Keep this sum as a guide when you talk to your employer.
Which wage do I enter?
It depends on the country. The UAE, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait use the basic wage. Saudi Arabia uses the last wage with regular allowances such as housing. Bahrain uses the basic wage plus the social allowance. The calculator shows the right one under the wage box.
Do I lose part of my gratuity if I resign?
In Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, yes, with shorter service. In Saudi Arabia you get nothing under 2 years, one third from 2 to 5 years, two thirds from 5 to 10 years and the full amount after 10 years. In Kuwait you get nothing under 3 years, half from 3 to 5, two thirds from 5 to 10 and the full amount after 10. The other countries in the calculator do not cut it for resigning.
Why does unpaid leave matter?
Days of unpaid leave are usually not counted as service, so they are taken off your service before the gratuity is worked out.
When can a worker lose the whole gratuity?
Dismissal for serious misconduct under the labour law (for example Article 80 in Saudi Arabia or Article 44 in the UAE) can take away the gratuity. This calculator does not cover that case; ask the Ministry of Labour or a lawyer.
