Most visitors leave a page that takes more than a few seconds to load, especially on a phone. Google also prefers fast pages. If your website feels slow, one or more of these problems is usually the reason.
1. Huge images
Photos straight from a phone or camera can be several megabytes each. Resize them and convert them to WebP.
2. No lazy loading
Images far down the page should load only when the visitor scrolls to them.
3. Too many plugins or apps
Every plugin adds code. Remove what you do not use and replace heavy ones with lighter options.
4. A heavy theme or page builder
Some themes load large files on every page, even for features you never use.
5. Slow or overloaded hosting
Cheap shared hosting can be slow at busy times. A CDN like Cloudflare serves your site from servers close to visitors, including in the Gulf.
6. No caching
Without caching the server builds the same page again for every visitor.
7. Render-blocking CSS and JavaScript
Scripts in the wrong place stop the page from showing until they finish loading.
8. Too many fonts
Each font weight is another download. Use one or two fonts, or the system font.
9. Third-party scripts
Chat widgets, trackers and social embeds can slow pages a lot. Load them later or only when needed.
10. Videos that autoplay
Embedded videos are heavy. Show a thumbnail and load the video only when it is clicked.
How to check your speed
Test your pages with Google PageSpeed Insights on mobile. It gives a score and a list of what to fix. Start with images and caching; they usually give the biggest improvement.
