Laravel vs WordPress: Which One Does Your Business Need?

Laravel vs WordPress: which one your business needs, a guide by arafatbin.com

Many business owners hear both names and wonder which one they need. The short answer: WordPress is a tool for publishing a website, and Laravel is a framework for building your own software. They solve different problems, and choosing the wrong one costs time and money.

What WordPress is good at

WordPress is a content management system: you get pages, a blog, themes and thousands of plugins. It works well for:

  • Company websites with pages, news and a contact form.
  • Blogs and magazines.
  • Small online stores with WooCommerce.
  • Projects where many people edit text and photos.

Its weak point comes from the same plugins: every plugin you add is code that must be kept up to date, and outdated plugins are one of the most common reasons WordPress websites get hacked.

What Laravel is good at

Laravel is a PHP framework for building web applications from code. Nothing is installed that you do not need: the developer builds exactly the screens, rules and reports your business uses. It is the better choice when:

  • People log in: staff, members, customers or suppliers.
  • You keep records: bookings, stock, orders, students or donors.
  • You need roles and permissions, for example staff can edit but not delete.
  • You need reports, Excel exports or connections to other systems through an API.
  • Your work has its own rules that no plugin covers.

Side by side

  • Best for: WordPress for content websites and blogs; Laravel for systems, portals and dashboards.
  • Time to launch: WordPress in days; Laravel in weeks, because it is built for you.
  • Running costs: WordPress needs hosting and often paid themes and plugins; Laravel needs hosting only, with no plugin licences.
  • Security: WordPress depends on keeping every plugin updated; Laravel has fewer moving parts and built-in protection against common attacks.
  • Changes later: WordPress is easy for content but harder for custom logic; in Laravel a developer can add any feature.

What about a normal website without either?

Many small businesses need neither. A fast website with a simple built-in CMS, like the ones we host free on Cloudflare, loads faster than a typical WordPress site, has no plugins to hack and costs nothing to host. It is the best choice for a business website, a landing page or a small online store.

How much does a Laravel web app cost?

It depends on how many modules (bookings, stock, members …) the system has. With arafatbin.com a starter app with one main module starts from OMR 45, a business app with up to 4 modules from OMR 90 and a Laravel online store from OMR 120. Hosting is extra, usually OMR 2–5 a month, because Laravel needs a PHP server with a database.

How to decide in one minute

  • Mainly pages, photos and a contact form? Choose a normal website.
  • A blog or news site edited by many people? WordPress is a good fit.
  • People log in, records are kept or you need reports? Choose Laravel.
  • Not sure? Tell us how you work today, and we will tell you honestly which one you need.
