Google measures how your website feels to real visitors with three numbers called Core Web Vitals. They are part of how Google ranks pages, and more importantly, they show whether visitors have a good experience.
LCP: Largest Contentful Paint
How long it takes for the main content, usually the big image or heading, to appear. Aim for 2.5 seconds or less.
- Compress and resize the main image.
- Use fast hosting and a CDN.
- Load the main image first, not last.
CLS: Cumulative Layout Shift
How much the page jumps around while it loads, for example when an image or banner pushes the text down just as you try to tap. Aim for 0.1 or less.
- Give images and videos a fixed width and height.
- Reserve space for banners and ads.
- Avoid inserting content above what the visitor is reading.
INP: Interaction to Next Paint
How quickly the page reacts when someone taps a button or opens a menu. Aim for 200 milliseconds or less.
- Use less JavaScript.
- Remove heavy plugins and third-party scripts.
- Break long tasks into smaller ones.
Where to see your scores
Google PageSpeed Insights shows your scores for mobile and desktop, and Google Search Console has a Core Web Vitals report for your whole site based on real visitors.
Do I need a perfect 100?
No. Aim for the "good" range in all three. A fast, stable page that answers the customer's question matters more than a perfect lab score.
